BB to introduce Taka-Rupee based debit card

Bangladesh Bank has decided to introduce a Taka-Indian Rupee-based debit card to facilitate cardholders in shopping and paying bills domestically.

Besides, when traveling to India, there will be a facility for Bangladeshis to spend in Rupees.

Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder disclosed the information while announcing the new monetary policy for the first half of the fiscal year 2023-24 on Sunday (June 18).

He said: "We are introducing a pay-card in Taka, which will be linked to Rupees. A user can purchase domestically. Besides, the same card can be used in India while travelling."

However, users can spend a maximum of 12,000 dollars in case of travelling to India, he said.

"Earlier, a traveller had to exchange money twice while visiting India. Now this money exchange hassles will be reduced", said the Governor.

This pay card will reduce the cost by at least 6 percent, added Abdur Rouf Talukder.
