Gold prices in Bangladesh have reached a new record, rising again within three days due to an increase in the price of raw gold in the local market.
According to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS), the price of the best quality 22-carat gold has been increased by Tk 1,469 per bhori (11.664 grams), setting a new record at Tk 154,944 per bhori.
The new prices will be effective from Wednesday (March 19).
This marks another price hike after reductions on February 24, 28, March 2, and March 9.
Before that, gold prices were raised nine times between January 16 and March 5. Previously, the highest price for 22-carat gold was Tk 153,475 per bhori.
BAJUS made the decision in a meeting of its Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Tuesday (March 18).
Later, committee chairman Masudur Rahman confirmed the price hike in a press release.
As per the new rates, the price of 21-carat gold has been raised by Tk 1,399 to Tk 147,899 per bhori, while 18-carat gold now costs Tk 126,776 per bhori after a Tk 1,201 increase. The price of traditional gold has risen by Tk 1,027 to Tk 104,498 per bhori.
Despite the increase in gold prices, silver rates remain unchanged. The price of 22-carat silver stands at Tk 2,578 per bhori, 21-carat at Tk 2,449, 18-carat at Tk 2,111, and traditional silver at Tk 1,586 per bhori.
