Biman to exclude Airbus, F28 after 2011

DHAKA: Airbus and F-28 aircraft will be excluded from Biman’s fleet after 2011.

Board of Directors of Biman Bangladesh Airlines took the decision as these aircrafts were old enough and cost high for operation.

Zakiul Islam, Chief Executive Officer of Biman confirmed the decision of the Biman Board said the decision was taken as part of a modernisation plan for the national-flag carrier.

The engineering department of Biman recommended for elimination of F-28 from the fleet ‘as soon as possible’, according to a source.

But the Board of Directors turned the recommendation down in order to use the aircrafts for training of pilot.

At present, Biman in its fleet has three Airbuses and three F-28 aircrafts-all manufactured in the early 80s.

In 2008, Biman declared F-28 unfit.
