Bangladesh is showcasing its export products at the Sabah Investment and Trade Expo 2025, being held in Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Malaysia’s Sabah state.
The three-day fair, organised by the Federation of Sabah Industries, runs from September 26 to 28.
The expo was formally inaugurated on Friday (September 26) by Sabah’s Deputy Chief Minister and Works Minister, Datuk Shahelmey Yahya, who later visited the booths of participating countries, including Bangladesh.
At the Bangladesh pavilion, Acting High Commissioner of Bangladesh to Malaysia Mosammat Shahanara Monika welcomed the dignitaries and introduced them to a range of Bangladeshi exportable products.
She urged the Sabah state government to support market expansion for Bangladesh’s renowned goods in the region. Datuk Shahelmey Yahya thanked the Bangladesh High Commission for its participation.
Among those present at the event were Expo Organising Chairman Datuk Richard Lim, Federation of Sabah Industries President Natalie Fong, state government officials, chamber representatives, and Bangladeshi diplomats, including Counsellor (Consular) Md. Morshed Alam, First Secretary (Commercial) Pranab Kumar Ghosh, and Third Secretary (Political) Md. Tanzim Hossain.
On Saturday (27 September), Acting High Commissioner Monica held a meeting with Federation President Natalie Fong, former President Datuk Richard Lim, and other representatives.
She called for their cooperation in expanding the market for Bangladeshi goods in Sabah and invited the Federation to lead a business delegation to Bangladesh in the near future, to which they expressed interest.
The Bangladesh pavilion is exhibiting a wide range of products, including food and beverages, jute goods, leather items, ceramics, plastics, and ready-made garments.
Officials expressed hope that participation in the expo would help open up new markets for Bangladeshi products in Sabah and other eastern Malaysian regions.
