Cattle markets open Oct 3 in city

DHAKA: Markets for sacrificial animals will be open in city from October 3 as Eid-ul-Azha, one of the largest Islamic religious festivals will be celebrated on October 6.

Traders will be allowed to enter the city with their sacrificial cattle from different parts of the country from October 1.

A total of 18 markets will be setup in across the city.

Both the southern and northern divisions of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) confirmed the matter to banglanews on Thursday.

MM Mohiuddin Kabir Mahin of DCC (north) told banglanews that they have taken preparations for setting up seven cattle markets in the northern part of the city.

They have already demarked the market areas and will not allow anybody to trade animals outside the demarked areas, he added.

According to him, a mobile team and law-enforcers will monitor the rules to be maintained by the traders.

Khalid Ahmad of DCC (south) told banglanews that traders are allowed to bring cattle in city from October 1 and to sell them from October 3.

As in the previous years, animal markets will be setup three days before the Eid, he added.

According to him, animal trade will also be allowed on the Eid day.
