Faruk urges businessmen not to be profit monger

DHAKA: Commerce Minister Faruk Khan Sunday urged the businessmen to give up the habit of making extra profit that tarnishes business community’s image.

“Business does not mean that you will just make profit. It is a service to the nation as well,” said Faruk.

He was addressing a ceremony organised by Bangladesh Investment Climate Fund to publish Economic Governance Index (EGI) 2010 at a city hotel with economist Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud in the chair.

The minister said politicians should not undermine the businessmen as they provide taxes and generate employment.

EGIs are constructed from surveys of local business and data from published sources to demonstrate a clear link between economic governance and the quality of the local business climate.

As per the survey based on the country’s 19 districts, Faridpur, Dinajpur and Kushtia perceived to be the highest position and Rajshahi, Barisal and Chittagong the lowest.

Sylhet City Corporation mayor Badar Uddin Ahmed Kamran and CPD executive director Mustafizur Rahman also spoke.
