Stampede amid fire panic at 2 Ctg garment factories: 40 workers wounded

CHITTAGONG: At least 40 people were injured in stampedes amid fire panic at two garment factories in Kalurghat industrial area in the district Saturday.     

"Twelve of the injured were rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital," said a spot report.

Sources said Dress Shirts Ltd of Azim Group and Meshaj Fashions Ltd are situated on the 4th and 6th floors of a building in BSCIC Industrial Area.

Some 5,000 people are working there, sources added.

Some ones rang the fire alarm of the two floors after a transformer had blasted near the building at around 1:30pm, which spread panic among the workers.

The workers began scrambling for exit from the factories, leaving 40 trampled under foot.
