Bangladesh-India 3rd ‘Border Haat’ inaugurated

FENI: The third border market, locally known as ‘haat’, was inaugurated Tuesday on the border of Bangladesh and India.

The haat was set up at Mukamiya of Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni and Srinagar of India’s Tripura state.

Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarker jointly inaugurated the haat around 3:00pm.

India’s Commerce and Industries Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pankaj Saran, Tripura local MP Jitendra Chowdhury, Feni-1 MP Shirin Akhter, Feni-2 MP Nizamuddin Hazari, among others, were present at the inauguration ceremony.

Earlier in 2012, two ‘border haats’ were set up at Meghalaya’s Kalaichar (India)-Baliamari (Bangladesh) and Dalora (Bangladesh)-Balat (India) border areas.
