Cabinet committee approves purchase proposal

DHAKA: The cabinet committee on purchase approved a proposal for procuring wheat and rice through international tender and granular urea fertilizer from KAFCO in Chittagong.     


Also, the cabinet body approved appointment of construction firm for capital dredging under Gorai River recovery project of Water Development Board (WDB) and railway rehabilitation of Syedpur-Chilahati Zone.

Appointment of consulting firm for infrastructure component under Sustainable Environment project under Dhaka City Corporation was also endorsed.


A meeting of the cabinet body held Thursday at the Cabinet Division with Finance Minister Abul Mal Abdul Muhith in the chair gave the approval. Agriculture, Industries, Forest, and Water Resources Ministers attended the meeting.

Joint secretary of the Cabinet Division Md Nurul Karim informed reporters about the decisions after the meeting.

As per decision of the government purchase committee, 50,000 metric tonnes of wheat and 30,000 MT boiled rice will be purchased through international tender.

Total cost of the wheat purchase would be Tk 92.22 crore at the rate of $265 per metric tonne while the rice import would cost over Tk 95.89 crore at the rate of $459.27 per metric tonne.

Besides, the urea fertilizer purchase would cost Tk 57.76 crore at the rate of 276.63 US$ under food budget of 2010-2011 FY.

The capital dredging of rivers would cost TK 205.53 crore under the Gorai River recovery project of WDB. China Harbor Engineering Company has been appointed for this purpose as contractor.

Rehabilitation of the rundown railways would cost Tk 103.68 crore for constructing 63.90 kilometres of rails in the Syedpur-Chilahati Zone while Tk 15.77 would be spent for hiring consultant firm under the DCC project.
