Dhaka-Delhi commerce secretary-level meet Nov 16

DHAKA: The commerce secretaries of Bangladesh and India are scheduled to sit for a bilateral meeting in New Delhi, the capital city of India, on November 16.

A source of foreign ministry confirmed the matter to Banglanews.

According to the source, several issues, including transit, transshipment, adopting the standards of BSTI, tariff barriers and export and import, between the two countries will be discussed in the meeting.

Commerce secretary Hedayet Ullah Al Mamun will lead the Bangladesh delegation.

Sources further said the meeting will help get transit facilities in a third country under the vessel protocol, prevent countervailing duty barriers, receive BSTI approved products and make land ports more dynamic.

Besides, the two parties will further discuss to make the border markets more dynamic in preventing illegal trading.

Bangladesh is also putting emphasis on reducing the trade deficit with India.

An inter-ministerial meeting will be held to set agenda before the secretarial meeting, the source added.
