Accord-Alliance to leave Bangladesh by Jan 31

DHAKA: Accord and Alliance, two platforms of buyers from Europe and America working to improve workplace safety in readymade garment sector of Bangladesh, is leaving the country by January 31 next year, said Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed.

The minister came up with the announcement, at a meeting with eight business bodies including BGMEA, BKMEA and FBCCI, at his ministry Thursday (May 31).

The meeting was held over various matters including paying the RMG workers their salaries and bonus, before the upcoming Eid-ul-fitr.

“The tenure of Accord-Alliance already has ended; which was extended till May 31. They will leave here after tucking in their activities,” said Tofail.

“No developed country allows their entry. Bangladesh is a prestigious country; they have no room here anymore,” he added.
