Bangladesh’s per capita income rises to $2,064

The per capita income in Bangladesh has increased by $155 from $1,909 to $2,064 despite the devastating impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Bangladesh Bureau of Statistic (BBS) on Tuesday revealed the latest figures as provisional data collected from the GDP and per capita income in the last nine months.

However, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth took a hit due to the pandemic. GDP grew at 5.24 percent in the 2019-20 fiscal year, according to the BBS data. 

The GDP growth was 8.15 percent, the highest ever in the country’s economic history, in fiscal year 2018-19 and 7.28 percent in FY17.

The BBS data also showed the total GDP size at current prices has been estimated at Tk 27,96,378 crore in last fiscal.

Of the total amount, 55.86 percent (Tk 14,91,423 crore) came from the service sector, 31.13 percent (Tk 8,31,896 crore) came from industry sector, 13 percent (Tk 3,47,638 crore) from agricultural sector.
