DHAKA: The Federation of Bangladesh Customs Clearing & Forwarding Agents Associations Thursday demanded immediate withdrawal of an additional tax on their commission in the proposed budget.

In the new national budget, now under discussion in parliament, the government has proposed to double the tax from the existing 7.5 percent to 15 percent.

The ten thousand agents across the country will go for movement, if their demand is not met, they warned at a press conference organised by the association at the National Press Club.

Association secretary-general Akhtar Hossain at the press meet termed the doubling of the tax illogical.

"Though the amount of commission has not increased, the government-proposed increase in tax will be a burden for us. We cannot take extra charge as it is fixed by the government,” Aktar Hossain added.

Association president Sheikh Muhammad Farid, Chittagong C&F Agents Association secretary-general Altaf Hossain Chowdhury and Adviser of the Association Ali Reza Raju attended the meet.
