IUB’s Monika becomes champion in Squash tournament 2024

Marjan Akter Monika, Assistant Squash Coach at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), became Champion in the 2nd Al-Arafah Islami Bank Squash Tournament 2024, held on November 7, at Chattogram Club. 

Monika secured the championship after defeating Nabila Tabassum from Nirjhor Cantonment School in a competitive final. The tournament brought together top squash players from across Bangladesh, with intense competition across multiple categories.

The tournament featured over 100 players from 25 clubs and institutions across Bangladesh, with preliminary rounds held at various venues. From these, 27 players advanced to the final rounds at Chattogram Club, where the top players competed for victory. Rahim Mia, Chairman of Chattogram Club, was the Chief Guest at the awards ceremony, presenting trophies and sports gear to the champions.

In the Members' Group, Saimoon Islam from BKSP clinched a thrilling victory over his fellow BKSP player Parvez Karim in the final. Saimoon also won the Junior National Team category, beating Mohammad Kamrul Islam from the Bangladesh Army.

In the Women’s Under-13 category, Pooja Rani of Kala Chandpur School emerged as the champion, defeating Sadiya Akter Maya from Golden Kalshi School. In the Women’s Under-17 category, Miskat Jahan of Bhashan School claimed victory over Rehenuma Jui of Kalshi School. 

The Boys' Under-13 category saw an all-BKSP final, with Mohammad Tamim Imran defeating his fellow BKSP player Miftahul Islam Araf. In the Boys' Under-17 final, Arafat Molla from BKSP triumphed over Abdul Ahad Sikder, also from BKSP. In the Men’s Open final, Saiful Mia from Chattogram Club made a stunning return after five years, defeating Army’s Corporal Roni Debnath to secure the championship.
