Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), in collaboration with the Department of General Management and the Independent Management and Entrepreneurship Club (IMEC), hosted its first-ever TEDxIUB event on December 19 at the IUB Auditorium.
This landmark event brought together thought leaders, industry pioneers, and creative minds to share their transformative ideas with the IUB community.
The inauguration began with an address by Vice Chancellor (Acting) Khandker Md. Iftekhar Haider. Prof. Raisul Awal Mahmood, PhD, Acting Dean of the School of Business and Entrepreneurship, and Prof. Md Mamun Habib, PhD, Head of the Department of General Management, delivered inspiring welcome speeches. Didar A. Husain, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, graced the occasion, emphasizing the importance of providing platforms for intellectual dialogue.
TEDxIUB featured an impressive roster of speakers spanning diverse industries and fields. Sayem Faruk, Founder and CEO of Airwork AI; and Marufa Akter, PhD, Head of the Global Studies and Governance Department at IUB, captivated the audience with their thought-provoking presentations. Mosharraf Khan Yaafi, Stand-up Comedian and Chief Growth Officer at PFEC Global, brought vibrant perspectives on creativity and innovation.
Additional luminaries included Katerina Don, Co-Founder and Creative Director of CholPori, and Zakia Sultana Laboni, Director at Mastercard Bangladesh. Their narratives reflected both personal growth and professional excellence. Contributions from B Proshad Das, model, fitness coach and Mr. World Bangladesh 2024; and Sausan Khan Moyeen, CEO and Founder of Enchanted Events and Prints; further enriched the discussions.
Other distinguished speakers such as Yawar Mehbub, Co-Founder and CFO of Aroggya; Halida Hanum Akhter, PhD, Public Health Expert; Zeeshan Zakaria, Teacher at Aga Khan School and Co-Founder & Advisor of Shikho; and Khan Muhammad Saqiful Alam, Area Head of Analytics for Bangladesh & Sri Lanka at British American Tobacco, brought their unique insights to the platform.
In addition to the talks, the event offered engaging performances by magician Azwad Mostafiz and the mesmerizing Angel Noor and Band, which added entertainment and a touch of magic to the day.
TEDxIUB was supported by Shawarma Damasco as the food partner, Bancoff as the coffee partner, and Bridal Heritage as the official photography and videography partner. Their contributions enhanced the overall experience for the attendees, blending intellectual engagement with hospitality and professional coverage.
Celebrating the TED ethos of “Ideas Worth Spreading,” TEDxIUB highlighted IUB’s dedication to advancing innovation, creativity, and leadership. The event stood as a landmark in the university’s commitment to intellectual engagement and community development.
