Titumir students block road again, demand university status

Students of Government Titumir College blocked the road in front of their institution on Thursday (January 30) to press home their seven-point demand, including upgrading the college to a university.

The demonstration began at noon as students gathered on the road, disrupting traffic in the area.

Earlier, on Wednesday (January 29) evening, they started a hunger strike under the banner "Titumir University State Recognition Demand Hunger Strike." During the protest, they placed seven demands.

The demands include granting state recognition to Titumir University and publishing an academic calendar, forming a university administration to start the admission process for the 2024-25 session, ensuring 100% accommodation for students or bearing full residential costs, introducing Law and Journalism programs of international standards from the 2024-25 academic year, appointing qualified PhD-holding teachers, and improving the quality of education by limiting student enrollment and establishing international-standard research labs with necessary land and financial allocation.

Gulshan Traffic Division reported that the hunger strike has caused severe disruption to vehicle movement. No vehicles are moving from Amtoli to Gulshan-1 and vice versa. Additionally, incoming and outgoing traffic from Mohakhali to Uttara is also affected.

Police are trying to bring the situation under control and restore normal traffic flow.
