Around 80 students from the Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) are heading to Dhaka to meet with the Chief Advisor to present a six-point demand, including the removal of KUET’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Mohammad Mashud, and Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. Shariful Islam, along with the appointment of new officials.
The students set off for Dhaka on Sunday, February 23, after holding a press conference.
They stated that they were leaving the campus due to concerns over safety and the lack of support from KUET authorities.
"We cannot even reach the bus station without fear, so we arranged transport on our own. We feel unsafe on campus, and that's why we are going to meet with the Chief Advisor. After this, we will move to a safer location and continue our activities online," they said.
The students also claimed that despite their requests for bus assistance from KUET authorities, they received no support.
"Since the government has turned its back on us, we are shutting down the campus completely with red cloths tied around our eyes. No academic or administrative work will continue at KUET until our demands are met," they added.
The students further criticized the authorities for failing to take action against the known assailants in a recent attack on campus, with some of them allegedly linked to Chhatra Dal, the student wing of the BNP.
"Despite having clear information about the attackers, the administration has filed charges against unidentified individuals. We believe the KUET administration itself is part of the problem," they stated.
The students also expressed dissatisfaction over the government's inaction five days after the incident, which they described as one of the most violent attacks on a university since the July protests.
They claimed that students were brutally attacked with weapons, leaving several injured.
