Rifat Mahmud Sabbir, a student of Media and Communication at Independent University, Bangladesh (IUB), has become Runner-Up in the Men's Singles segment of the Acme Cup Open Table Tennis Tournament 2025. On his way to the top, Sabbir won seven matches in the tournament. 

The tournament featured some of the top players from across the country and was organized by the Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation from February 21 to 23 at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium, Dhaka.

RamhimLian Bawm from the Department of Global Studies and Governance won five matches to finish in the quarterfinals. Mohammad Zubair Khan Pritom from the Department of International Business competed in the first round. Empa Khatun from the Department of Sociology advanced to the second round. Sharmin Islam Shroddha from the Department of Computer Science also reached the second round, winning one match. Sadia Tabassum Shawon from the Department of Microbiology played in the first round.
