HSC examinee stabbed by muggers in Dhaka

A Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinee was injured after being stabbed by muggers in the capital’s Green Road area early Thursday (July 3).

The victim, Rina Tripura, was attacked near her college dormitory while returning by rickshaw from Kalabagan around dawn, according to her family members.

She was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.

Rina, a student of Meherunnesa School and College, had failed the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) subject in her HSC exams last year and was scheduled to retake the exam on July 7.

She had arrived in Dhaka from her home in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban to prepare for the test, her brother Jewel Tripura, a student of Dhaka University, told reporters.

“She was returning to her dorm when a mugger stopped her rickshaw, stabbed her, and fled with her belongings,” he said.

Inspector Md Faruk of the DMCH police camp confirmed the incident.

“The victim is undergoing treatment. She sustained stab wounds during the mugging,” he said.

Tejgaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Mobarak Hossain said an investigation is underway to determine the exact location of the attack. “We’ve spoken to the victim’s family and are working to identify the culprits,” he added.

Kalabagan Police Station OC Md Fazle Ashiq also stated that law enforcement is trying to ascertain under which police station’s jurisdiction the incident occurred.

However, no arrests have been made as of Thursday afternoon.
