78.33% pass, 70,602 get GPA-5

DHAKA: The results of the Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations have been published Wednesday with an overall pass percentage of 78.33, which is 4.03% higher than the previous year.

This year's results also witnessed a rise of GPA-5 scorers, with a total of 70,602 students achieving the highest grade. In 2013, the number of GPA-5 scorers was 58,197students

Among the country's 10 education boards, Madrasa Board topped the list in pass percentage, showing 94.08% success while 85.02% students have passed in the Technical Education Board.

Besides 84.54% students have passed in Dhaka Board while 78.55% in Rajshahi, 70.14% in Comilla, 79.16% in Sylhet, 71.75% in Barisal, 74.14% in Dinajpur, and 60.85% in Jessore board.

A total of 57,789 achieved GPA-5 in eight general education boards, 38,747 in madrasa board while the figure of the vocational board could not be known.

84.54% male students have passed with 38,787 gaining GPA-5 while 78.86% female students have passed with 31,815 achieving GPA-5.

Education minister Nurul Islam Nahid, accompanied by the chairmen of the education boards, handed over the copies of the result to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban in the city 10:00am.

Nahid will unveil the results at a press conference in the ministry at the Secretariat in the city at 1:00pm.

The premier was scheduled to hold a video conference with several students of different institutions there.

The results under eight general education, vocational and madrasa boards will be available subsequently from 1:30am on the day.

Results
All the examination centers and educational institutions have been asked to use their respective EIIN numbers to download the results through the webmail available at www.educationboard.gov.bd.

The results will made available at www.educationboardresults.gov.bd and at the websites of the education boards concerned following the unveiling of the results from 1:30pm.

Candidates can also get the result by sending SMS  to 16222 typing 'HSC' followed by a space then first 3 letters of the respective education board another space then roll number followed by space again then '2014'.For example: hsc>dha>123456>2014 and send to 16222.

Determining the top
 
This year, five parameters – percentage of regular students passing the exam, percentage of passing students, percentage of students getting GPA-5, number of examinees and the average GPA of the institutions – will be used to determine top educational institutions in each board.

No results will be available at Education Ministry, education boards and newspapers offices.

A total of 1,141,374 students from 10 education boards appeared in the examinations this year started on April 3 and ended on June 8 across the country.
