3-room Premier University sealed

RAJSHAHI: A total of 20 chairs were there in two classrooms. Two computers were in two other rooms which were used in admission and other official tasks. Brokers were used to attract and admit students.

The story does not end here. Instead of appointing permanent teachers, newly passed students were given Tk500 per class to take classes of disciplines like BBA and English Literature.

This is not a story of any coaching center. This is the scenario of Rajshahi Campus of Premier University of Technology.

A few days ago, University Grants Commission (UGC) declared Rajshahi Campus of the university illegal. Rajshahi district executive magistrate, in presence of law enforcers, sealed the university after a letter from the UGC.

District Executive Magistrate Hafizur Rahman told banglanews they sealed the branch campus after getting a letter from UGC in this regard.

Executive director of Rajshahi campus of Premier University Ibrahim Sheikh said, “The campus was opened one year ago. A total of 49 students were admitted here. The number of employees in the office is four.”

He also claimed that the Rajshahi Campus is an UGC approved branch though he failed to show any documents in this regard.

In response to a query about amount of money on the flip side of receipt book, Ibrahim Sheikh said, “They used to give 50 percent of first installment to the brokers who brought students for admission.”

Vice Chancellor of the university MN Haque told banglanews that they have campuses around the country.

He also said, “I don’t know why this happened in Rajshahi campus. I will go to Rajshahi on Sunday and probe the matter.”
