DU again asks 2nd chance seekers to leave

UNIVERSITY OF DHAKA (DU): Instead of meeting demand, Dhaka University (DU) authorities asked the second time admission seekers to leave the Central Shaheed Minar on the fifth day of their indefinite hunger strike.

A group of DU admission seekers arranged hunger strike unto death with the demand of getting second chance to sit for the varsity’s admission test.

The protesters continued the fast that began on Wednesday noon.

On the other hand, the DU authorities on Saturday said through a press release that they are observing with anxiety that a group of ‘failure’ students are in the premises of the Shaheed Minar.

“They, the students, are staying there disobeying the High Court’s rule,” the release added. “The students are hampering regular activities of different socio-cultural organizations and regular activities of the university.”

They, however, asked all to ‘leave’ the place as soon as possible.

Though the university authorities delivered the same order earlier once again, but, the students refused to leave the demonstration, despite of being ill one after another.

Sources told banglanews that seven students have fallen in sick till Saturday.

On the other hand, eminent statesman Dr Kamal Hossain and ex-DUCSU VP Mahmudur Rahman Manna expressed their sympathy to the protesters terming their movement rightful.

Earlier, the protesters sent a memorandum to the president, also the chancellor of Dhaka University.

In the memorandum, they said that the Dhaka University’s sudden decision of not allowing the admission seekers to sit for test for the second time will affect their education.

Earlier on October 14, Dhaka University vice-chancellor after a meeting with the admission committee announced that they will not allow the students to sit for the admission test for second time from the next year.

But, the protesters vowed that they will continue their movement until their demand is not meet.
