Bangladesh elected AIT Board of Trustees member

DHAKA: Bangladesh Ambassador to Thailand Saida Muna Tasneem was unanimously elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) in Bangkok Thursday morning (local time).

Bangladesh embassy in Bangkok issued a press release in this regard.

It said Bangladesh’s nomination was proposed by Subin Pinkayan, chairman of the Board of Trustees of AIT and former foreign minister of Thailand, and seconded by India, Pakistan, Nepal, Vietnam and other members.

Ambassador Tasneem was also made chairperson of the newly formed five-member ‘Taskforce on Campaign for AIT Funding’ which also comprises Sahas Bunditkul, Professor Emeritus and former Deputy Prime Minister and Interim Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand.

Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) was established in 1959, now ranks number two among Thai Universities, within top ten among Asian universities and within top 250 in the world.

However, nearly 1,100 Bangladeshi students have graduated in engineering, technology, environment, energy, IT, banking and management and gender studies from AIT in graduate, post graduate and PhD studies.

Some 4,000 civil servants, bankers and professionals from Bangladesh have also participated in the short-term training courses in AIT.

In the Trustees meeting Bangladesh ambassador reaffirmed the commitment of the present government of Bangladesh to engage more proactively with AIT including efforts to increase the number of Bangladeshi students in exchange and integrated graduate and post-graduate programs between AIT and different Universities of Bangladesh.
