BUET closed sine die, students asked to leave halls

DHAKA: Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) has been closed for an indefinite period on Thursday as camps situation went instable following student’s demonstration.

The university administration has also asked the resident students to leave their dormitories within 5:00pm.

AKM Masud, registrar of the university, confirmed the matter to banglanews.

The registrar, however, could not tell anything about when the BUET is going to be opened.

The vice chancellor (VC) is now staying abroad and decision on reopening the university will be taken after VC’s return, Masud added.

Meanwhile, additional police forces have also been deployed at the campus to avoid further untoward situations.

A group of students has carried out attacks and vandalisms at different places of the university for last two days in demand of rescheduling their examinations, forcing the authorities to close the institution due to security concerns.
