Primary head teachers upgraded to 10th pay grade

The government has elevated the pay scale of all head teachers in public primary schools across the country to the 10th grade, benefiting a total of 65,502 teachers.

The decision was announced through an official notification by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education on Monday (July 28).

Previously, head teachers received salaries under the 11th grade if trained, and 12th grade if untrained. Following a recent order from the Supreme Court in Civil Review Petition No. 124/2022, the pay scale of 45 head teachers was upgraded from the 11th to the 10th grade. Building on that ruling, the government has now approved the same upgrade for all head teachers nationwide, considering it a just and logical step.

The ministry said that this long-awaited decision will improve the financial security and social standing of head teachers. It is expected to motivate them to play a more creative and enthusiastic role in enhancing the quality of primary education.

By implementing this upgrade, the government has reaffirmed its commitment to the welfare of primary educators. Officials hope that with continued cooperation from teachers, guardians, and stakeholders, the quality of education at the primary level will be significantly improved.
