SUST: Teachers of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, (SUST), came under attack from alleged Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) members while staging demonstration demanding its vice-chancellor step down.

The demonstrators were assaulted when they obstructed VC professor Aminul Haque Bhuiyan along with proctorial body to enter the campus around 8:30am Sunday.

A number of teachers including renowned educationist and writer Dr. Muhammad Zafar Iqbal and his wife Dr Yeasmin Haque, Dr Yunus, Dipen Debnath, anti-VC spokesperson Syed Shamsul Alam, Faruq Uddin, Mostafa Kamal Masud, Mohammad Omar Faruk were assaulted during the attack.

Assaulted teachers alleged that SUST unit BCL leaders-activists, including vice president Abu Syed Akand, vice-president Anjan Roy, joint secretary Sajidul Islam Sabuj launched  the attack on teachers.

Later, SUST unit BCL president Sanjiban Chakrabarti Perth general secretary Imran Khan and others joined the attack, they added. 

During the, Proctor, assistant proctor and police played inactive role though attack was launched in presence of them, teachers also alleged.

Later, with the escort of BCL leaders-activists, the VC and proctorial body entered the campus.
