‘Suicide note’ found at RU teacher’s room

RAJSHAHI UNIVERSITY: An associate professor of Rajshahi University (RU) was found dead inside her campus residence on Friday afternoon (September 9).

The deceased was identified as Akter Jahan, Associate Professor of the department of Mass Communication and Journalism (MCJ) of RU.

Meanwhile, police found a “suicide note” from room no. 303 of Zuberi Bhaban, where Akter Jahan used to live.

Kazi Mamun Haider, Assistant Professor of the MCJ department of RU, told banglanews that the suicide note says, “No one is responsible for my death. I have committed suicide due to mental and physical stress”.

“Handwriting on the note says it was written by her,” he added.

Earlier in the day, police recovered Akter Jahan’s body by breaking into the door of her room around 5:00pm.

She was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) where on-duty physician Mahinul Islam declared her dead on arrival.

Physicians primarily suspected she had “died a long time ago”, reports banglanews correspondent.

He, however, said nothing can be said about the incident without the deceased’s autopsy.

Akter Jahan’s only son, Swad, reads in Class-IX in a school in Dhaka.

She was married to his colleague Associate Professor Tanveer Ahmad. They, however, got divorced a few years back.
