Children awarded in Russian-Bangladesh art contest

DHAKA: The Russian Centre for Science & Culture (RCSC) in Dhaka hosted a solemn awarding ceremony for participants of the painting competition timed to correspond with the 48th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Russia and Bangladesh on Friday (Feb 7).

about 157 members of the Serov Academy of Fine Art took part in the exhibition of paintings and presented to the visitors 206 of their works. The main goal of the contest was to summarize the intermediate results of the education of children in the Art Academy named after ‘Valentin Serov’. The jury was headed by the artist and professor of the Department of Painting of the Dhaka University Samarjit Roy Chowdhury, well-known in Bangladesh.

The President of the Bangladesh-Russia Friendship Society, the former Vice Chancellor of the University of Dhaka Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique and Mr. Maxim Dobrokhotov, Counsellor, Embassy of the Russian Federation, the People’s Republic of Bangladesh & Director of the RCSCe in Dhaka distributed awards and certificates among the winners and participants.

In their speeches, speakers said that the Soviet Union recognized as one and the first the proclamation of the independent People's Republic of Bangladesh on January 25, 1972. This date is a landmark event in the history of Bangladesh and modern Russia. Participation in the solemn closing in the RCSC of the exhibition of children's drawings of Serov Academy of Fine Art of Bangladeshi and Russian schoolchildren is an important moment in establishing contacts between peers of the two countries.

The prize giving ceremony was followed by a delightful cultural function with the participation of young dancers from the group of “Spandan”.
