‘Ami Banglay Gaan Gai’ singer Pratul Mukhopadhyay no more

Renowned lyricist, composer, and musician Pratul Mukhopadhyay has passed away at the age of 83 after spending several days in critical condition at SSKM Hospital in Kolkata.

His death was confirmed by Anandabazar.

At the beginning of the year, Pratul was admitted to the hospital in a deteriorating state. A team of neurology and ENT specialists attended to him, and even the Chief Minister of Kolkata visited during his treatment.

According to hospital sources, he suffered a heart attack after surgery, leading to antibiotic-resistant infections and pneumonia, which worsened his condition. Eventually, he lost consciousness and passed away.

Born on June 25, 1942, in Barishal (then part of undivided Bengal), Pratul later migrated to India with his family during the partition. His deep passion for music led him to compose and sing many timeless songs. Among them, "Ami Banglay Gaan Gai", released in March 2011, remains one of his most cherished works.

Pratul's impressive discography includes beloved albums such as "Pathore Pathore Nache Agun", "Jete Hobe", "Otho Hey, Swapner Feriwala", "Tomake Dekhechhilam", "Shoponpure", "Onek Notun Bondhu Hok", "Hajabarala", "Dui Kanur Upakhyan", and "Aadhar Name".
