A concert celebrating the works of Bangladesh’s national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam is set to take place this evening (May 31) at Manik Mia Avenue in Dhaka, featuring performances by 10 prominent local bands.
Titled Nazrul Concert 2025, the event will begin at 5 pm and continue until 10 pm. Entry is free for the public.
Originally scheduled for Friday (30 May), the concert was postponed by a day in observance of the death anniversary of former President Ziaur Rahman.
The participating bands include Souls, Warphase, Dalchhut, Ark, Titleless, Mizan and Brothers, Different Touch, Black, Rebel, and F Minor. They will perform Nazrul’s songs in a fusion with rock music.
Executive Director of the Nazrul Institute, Latiful Islam Shibli, said the initiative aims to connect younger generations with Nazrul’s literary legacy.
“Nazrul’s songs and poems inspired us during the mass uprising of 1924 and in various movements and struggles,” he said. “Through this concert, we want to honour his contributions and keep his spirit alive. We are also planning to release an album featuring his inspirational songs.”
