DHAKA: A soiree of classical music by Pundit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury will be held at Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre in city’s Gulshan area.
The soiree, to jointly be organized by IGCC in association with Asian Paints, IRCON and Marico Bangladesh, will begin at 6:30pm on May 30.
Born in 1928 at Faridpur, Pandit Amaresh Roy Chowdhury learned classical music from legendary classical vocalists such as Sudhir Lal Chakrabarty, Harihar Shukla and Tarapada Chakrabarty.
He also took lessons on modern Bangla songs, Atulprasad’s songs, Nazrul Sangeet and Shyama Sangeet from Netrakona’s noted artiste and composer Nikhil Chandra Sen.
Pandit Amaresh received many awards and titles during his illustrious career. The awards include Sanket Sangskritik Goshthi award 1981, Ustad Gul Mohammad Memorial Award’ by Sangeet Academy in 1982 and ‘Gunijan Sammanona’ by Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy in 1997.
He also received ‘AHM Kamaruzzaman Sammanona Smarok’ on the Victory Day in 2010 and ‘Rabindra Padak’ by Jatiya Rabindra Sangeet Sammilan Parishad in 2014.
He is a special grade classical vocalist at Bangladesh Betar (Rajshahi Centre) and Bangladesh Television.
He has released one audio cassette on classical music. He has been teaching music at Shilpashram Laltikala Academy at Rajshahi.
He has established a music institution named ‘Sangeetashram’.
