Dengue: 18 dead, 2,880 hospitalised in 24 hours

At least 18 dengue patients died while 2,880 others were hospitalised in 24 hours till 8 am today (August 14), said the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the 24 hours, 1,990 dengue patients were admitted in Dhaka while 1,561 dengue patients were admitted outside the capital, said the DGHS release.

Besides, this year a total 416 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh till today.

According to DGHS, this year till today 4,140 patients are undergoing treatment in different hospitals in Dhaka while 5,291 other patients are being treated in hospitals outside Dhaka.

A total of 87,891 were infected by the Dengue virus this year. Of them, 43,665 were in Dhaka and 44,226 were outside of the capital, according to the DGHS press release.

As many as 78,044 Dengue patients recovered this year. Of them, 39,207 were released from hospitals in Dhaka while 38,837 others left hospitals outside the capital. 

Last year, a total of 281 died from the mosquito-borne viral disease in Bangladesh. However, 28,429 patients were admitted to different hospitals with dengue while 28,265 patients recovered in last year.
