China Eastern Airlines is set to introduce direct flights between Chattogram and Kunming, facilitating travel for Bangladeshi patients seeking medical care in southern China.
To accommodate these patients, four hospitals in Kunming have been designated for treatment. However, high airfare costs remain a significant barrier, discouraging many from making the journey, according to an official post on the chief adviser's Facebook page.
Officials believe that the new route will significantly cut both travel expenses and time, making healthcare services in China more accessible.
Bangladesh’s Ambassador to China, Nazmul Islam, noted that hospitals in Kunming have allocated dedicated floors for Bangladeshi patients.
"The treatment costs are affordable, and Bangladeshi patients are charged the same rates as local Chinese residents," he stated.
To further ease travel, Bangladesh’s civil aviation authorities are exploring ways to reduce airfares for Dhaka-Kunming flights.
Meanwhile, Chinese officials have expressed interest in expanding healthcare facilities for Bangladeshi patients in the near future.
In April, a delegation of Bangladeshi journalists is scheduled to visit Kunming to assess and report on the medical facilities available.
Last month, dozens of Bangladeshi patients traveled to Kunming for treatment. While they appreciated the quality of care, many voiced concerns over high travel costs, according to the official post.
