3 die of COVID-19, 19 new cases in 24-hour

Three more people have died from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours in Bangladesh, while 19 new cases of the virus were reported during the same period, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

A press release was issued on Monday (June 23) by DGHS.

With the latest numbers, the total number of COVID-19 cases in 2024 stands at 452. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Bangladesh has recorded 2,051,997 confirmed cases.

A total of 406 samples were tested over the past 24 hours, yielding a positivity rate of 4.68 percent. So far, 15,729,690 samples have been tested in the country. 

The overall infection rate now stands at 13.05 percent, with a recovery rate of 98.41 percent and a fatality rate of 1.44 percent.

Of the three newly deceased, one was male and two were female. One of them was aged between 61 and 70, another between 71 and 80, and the third between 91 and 100. 

Two of the deaths occurred in Chattogram, and one in Dhaka. One patient died in a public hospital while the other two passed away in private hospitals.

So far this year, COVID-19 has claimed 19 lives in Bangladesh. The total death toll from the virus since March 2020 now stands at 29,518.

Bangladesh reported its first confirmed COVID-19 cases on March 8, 2020. The country recorded its first virus-related death 10 days later, on March 18.
