200 die from dengue in Bangladesh this year

The death toll from dengue has reached 200 in 2025, with two more fatalities reported in the past 24 hours as of Wednesday morning, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the same period, 490 patients were hospitalized with viral fever, bringing the total number of dengue cases this year to 47,832.

Last year, dengue claimed 575 lives with 101,214 reported cases and 100,040 recoveries. In 2023, the disease killed 1,705 people and sent 321,179 patients to hospitals.

This year’s monthly fatalities include January: 10, February: 3, April: 7, May: 3, June: 19, July: 41, August: 39, and September: 76.

DGHS data shows that 60.6% of infections have been among men and 39.4% among women so far in 2025.

Currently, 2,359 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals across the country, as health authorities continue to urge preventive measures to control the outbreak.
