Charge hearing against Rid Pharma on July 12

DHAKA: A Dhaka court fixed July 12 for charge hearing against Rid Pharmaceuticals owners in a case filed against them for manufacturing toxic syrup.

Judge Mohammad Abdul Majid of the Drugs Court set the date.

Caretaker of the Drug Administration Shafiqul Islam filed the case with the court on August 2009 on charge of making and marketing adulterated paracetamol syrup for children.

The bailed-out accused managing director of Rid Pharma, Mizanur Rahman, and director Sheuli Rahman were present at the court.

Three other accused--director Abdul Gani and pharmacists Mahabubul Islam and Enamul Haq--are on the run.

The case statement says some 28 children died in different hospitals across the country, including the Shishu Hospital, for taking Temset and Ridaplex syrups made by Rid Pharma.
