JATIYA SANGSAD BHABAN: Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammad Nasim said more than three lakh people are diagnosed with cancer each year while around one lakh patients die from the disease.    

The minister attributed cause of the disease to tobacco, pollution and unhygienic diet.

Mohammad Nasim came up with the disclosure in a question-answer session of Jatiya Sangsad on Thursday (September 20).

“Number of patients of such disease is increasing gradually. The government has taken several steps to raise awareness and improve standard of treatment in this regard,” he added.

The minister said, “Modern new machines have been added to modern radio therapy treatment for cancer treatment at National Cancer Research Institute and Hospital and Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH)

The government has already taken various plans to expand dimension of treatment of cancer, availability and quality of its treatment. Also, initiatives have taken to provide cancer patients with medicine, Chemotherapy for free of cost. Besides, special donation is also given for poor patients by way of hospital’s social service, Mohammad Nasim added.
