HC seeks info about death toll from dengue

DHAKA: The High Court on Wednesday (Nov 6) asked the authorities concerned to provide the actual number of people who died of dengue fever this year.

The HC bench of Justice Tariq ul Hakim and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir fixed Monday (Nov 11) as the next date of hearing asking to inform the number of deaths on that day.

The court also asked two city corporations of Dhaka to submit a report with affidavit on Monday over the progress of Aedes mosquito eradication on the next hearing day.

Deputy Attorney General Barrister Kazi Moinul Hassan stood for the state in the court. Barrister Tawfique Inam Tipu argued for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC).

Earlier on August 28, the court ordered the government to inform to about steps taken to control the dengue. 

On July 5, the High Court issued a suo moto rule ordering the authorities concerned to take measures to control Aedes mosquito, including dengue-chikungunya in Dhaka Cities within 24 hours on priority basis.
