DHAKA: The Global Vaccine Summit will be held in London on Thursday (June 4) to ascertain how countries and front-line health workers are successfully are addressing the crisis and maintaining essential vaccination services.
The UK government is hosting Gavi’s third donor pledging conference on 3-4 June, 2020 to mobilise at least US$ 7.4 billion in additional resources to protect the next generation with vaccines, reduce disease inequality and create a healthier, safer and more prosperous world.
The Global Vaccine Summit marks twenty years since Gavi was founded. As the world grapples with COVID-19 it is natural to focus on what is unprecedented – the scale of the threat, its tragic impact on so many people, the economic disruption.
Leaders recognised these truths when they established Gavi and they recognise them today. The G20 recognised them when they called upon the world to accelerate development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, and to provide immediate resources to Gavi.
According to organizers, if the Summit succeeds, we will be able to maintain immunisation in developing countries, mitigating the impact of the pandemic; we will be able to sustain health systems so that countries are ready to rapidly introduce COVID-19 vaccines; and by 2025 we will have immunised more than 1.1 billion children, saving 22 million lives.
The organizers also urged to celebrate the collective success of this great Alliance, to understand the challenges we face, and to commit funding – and to join the race to accelerate COVID-19 vaccines.

Along with other world leader, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will also join the Global Vaccine Summit virtually.
It will bring together private and public sector global leaders, build long-term sustainability and vaccine supply security to reduce disease inequality and create a safer and more prosperous world.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called on countries to come together in a “truly global effort” to defeat coronavirus.
