DHAKA: A 6.7 magnitude earthquake has struck 40 kilometres northwest of Port Alice at a depth of 22 kilometres, the Pacific Tsunami Information Centre reports.

Authorities are still evaluating the risk of a local tsunami but have already determined a widespread destructive tsunami threat does not exist based on historical earthquake and tsunami data.
