DHAKA: A journalist has been allegedly killed by mining mafia after he refused to withdraw a court case in Madhya Pradesh.

According to the police, Sandeep Kothari was kidnapped and set on fire, reports the NDTV.

The burnt body of Kothari, was found at a farm in Nagpur, he was allegedly abducted from Katangi Tehsil in Balaghat district two days ago.

Police have arrested three persons in connection with the brutal murder, said police sources.

Local police officer, J S Markam said, “We are investigating the case from all angles and a police team is camping in Nagpur. It will be premature to conclude the exact reason behind the kidnapping and killing.”

Kothari was abducted on June 19 at night while travelling on a bike with his friend Rahandle, his bike was hit by a four-wheeler and the abductors beat up his friend before leaving him and taking the journalist with them in the car.

The 40 year old was working as a local correspondent for some Jabalpur-based Hindi dailies. He was allegedly under pressure to withdraw a case of illegal mining that he had filed against some persons in a local court.
