DHAKA: In sixth phase, 73 more Bangladeshi trafficking victims, who were rescued from Myanmar coast, will be brought back home on Monday, said officials of Border Guard Bangladesh.

BGB Cox’s Bazar sector commander colonel M Anisur Rahman said that the process to bring 73 fortune seekers back from Myanmar has been finalized.

A delegation of Bangladesh comprising of BGB, district administration, police force entered Myanmar through Ghumdhum border in Naikangchhari upazila of Bandarban around 10:00am Monday, he added.

He went on saying, “After a flag meeting with Myanmar Immigration department at Dekibania opposite to Ghumdhum zero point, 73 people who were identified as Bangladeshis would be brought back.”

International Organization for Migration (IMO)’s national program officer Asif Munir said the number of returnees might be increased. After return form Myanmar, they will be kept at Cox’s Bazar cultural center.

However, Myanmar navy rescued 727 migrants from their water. In five phases, a total of 626 from the rescued people were handed over to the BGB after identifying them as Bangladeshis.
