DHAKA: The year 2015 witnesses a good number of major attacks in different parts of the globe. Some of them have been uphold for our readers.
Charlie Hebdo attack:
On January 7, two brothers, Saïd and Chérif Kouachi, forced their way into the offices of the French satirical weekly newspaper Charlie Hebdo in Paris. Armed with assault rifles and other weapons, they killed 11 people and injured 11 others in the building. After leaving, they killed a French National Police officer outside the building.
Garissa University College attack:
On April 2, gunmen stormed the Garissa University College in Garissa, Kenya, killing 148 people, and injuring 79 or more. The militant group and Al-Qaeda offshoot, Al-Shabaab, which the gunmen claimed to be from, took responsibility for the attack.
Kabul Parliament attack:
Kabul Parliament attack occurred on June 22. The Taliban detonated a car bomb outside the National Assembly in Kabul, and Taliban fighters attacked the building with assault rifles and RPGs. Two civilians and 7 Taliban die in the attack.
Kuwait mosque attack:
A suicide bombing took place on June 26 at a Shia mosque in Kuwait. The Islamic State (IS) of Iraq and Syria claimed responsibility for the attack leaving twenty-seven people were killed and 227 people were wounded.
Sinai attacks:
On July 1, the IS-affiliated Sinai Province militant group launched the largest scale battle the Sinai Peninsula has seen since the 1973 Yom Kippur War, killing 21 soldiers in the numerous attacks which targeted multiple Egyptian army checkpoints and the Sheikh Zuweid police station in the Sinai Peninsula. More than 100 militants were reportedly killed by the army during the battle.
Kabul Bombing:
The August 7 Kabul bombings killed at least 50 people and injured about 500 more in central Kabul, near an Afghan army base in the city’s District 8. It was one of 3 attacks in a 24-hour period in Kabul.
Maiduguri bombing:
A series of bombings took place on September 20 in Maiduguri and Monguno, Nigeria, killing at least 145 people and injuring at least 97 others. The majority of casualties occurred in Maiduguri where four explosions killed at least 117 people.

Ankara bombing:
On October 10, two bombs were detonated outside Ankara Central railway station. As of October 16, the death toll stands at 102 and more than 400 people were injured.
The bombs appeared to target a ‘Labour, Peace and Democracy’ rally organized by the Confederation of Progressive Trade Unions of Turkey (DİSK), the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB), the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), the Turkish Medical Association (TTB) and the Confederation of Public Workers’ Unions (KESK). The rally was held to protest against the growing conflict between the Turkish Armed Forces and the separatist Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).
Paris attack:
On the evening of 13 November, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks occurred in Paris and its northern suburb, Saint-Denis. Three suicide bombers struck near the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, followed by suicide bombings and mass shootings at cafés, restaurants, and a concert hall in Paris.
The attackers killed 130 people, including 89 at the Bataclan theatre, where they took hostages before engaging in a stand-off with police. There were 368 people who were wounded, 80–99 seriously so. Seven of the attackers also died, while authorities continued to search for accomplices.
The attacks were the deadliest on France since World War II, and the deadliest in the European Union since the Madrid train bombings in 2004.
San Bernardino shooting
On December 2, in a terrorist attack which consisted of a mass shooting and an attempted bombing, in San Bernardino, California, 14 people were killed and 22 were seriously injured.
Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, a married couple living in the city of Redlands, targeted a San Bernardino County Department of Public Health training event and holiday party, of about 80 employees, in a rented banquet room.
Kandahar Airport attack:
The Kandahar attacks occurred on 8 December when several suicide bombers penetrated the security of a Kandahar Airfield, barricading themselves into an old school building that now contains shops and battled with Afghan soldiers for few hours.
The Afghan defense ministry said 50 civilians and members of the security forces had been killed, along with 11 Taliban. A further 35 people were injured, it said. Taliban claimed responsibilities.
