Tunnel through Indo-Pak line of control

DHAKA: The discovery of a 30-feet-long and 10-feet-deep tunnel running through the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's RS Pura sector has come as a real shocker to the Army.

The discovery of a 30-feet-long and 10-feet-deep tunnel running through the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir's RS Pura sector has come as a real shocker to the Army, reports the NDTV.

The Border Security Force or BSF says the tunnel was built for terrorists to infiltrate into India.

"An attempt has been made to dig a tunnel from Pakistan side into India, with an aim to push arms and terrorists into Jammu city", said Rakesh Sharma, IG BSF Jammu Range.

This is not the first time a tunnel has been discovered on the border with Pakistan. In 2012, a sophisticated 400-metre-long tunnel with ventilation pipes was discovered in the Samba sector and another was found near the LoC in the Akhnoor sector in 2009.
The BSF has called for a flag meeting and lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan Rangers over the discovery of the tunnel.

"Their strategy was to keep the wild growth and to dig the tunnel, investigation is on, we have lodged a protest with the Pakistan Rangers", IG Sharma said.

Expertise and lot of engineering goes into the construction of such tunnels. Terrorists arrested in the past have indicated the possibility of tunnels being used for infiltration. With traditional routes for infiltration getting blocked in a big way, terrorists could possible bring a change in tactics.
