Odhikar director sent to jail

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent human rights organization Odhikar Director ASM Nasiruddin Elan to jail after rejecting his bail plea.

Cyber Crime Tribunal Judge KM Shamsul Alam passed the order after Elan, who had been absconding since September, surrendered before the court.

Earlier, Elan had sought bail plea to the High Court. But the court ordered him to surrender before the Cyber Crime Tribunal and file the bail petition.

On September 11, the tribunal took into cognizance the charges against the accused and issued an arrest warrant against Nasiruddin Elan.

Odhikar Secretary Adilur Rahman Khan was also accused in the case filed under the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act for distorting facts about the eviction drive against Hefajat-e-Islam at Shapla Chattar on May 5.
