Dhaka: A Dhaka Court Wednesday ordered the Criminal Investigation Department cops to submit by June 30 the probe report in a case on the carnage committed by border guards at Bangladesh Rifles Pilkhana headquarters in February last year.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate AKM Enamul Haque set the date as CID's Special Superintendent of Police Abdul Kahar Akand failed to submit the report by Wednesday, the scheduled date for reporting their findings.

Abdul Kahar Akand, also the investigation officer of the case, prayed on Wednesday morning for more time to make it.

Earlier on April 21, the same court asked the CID to submit the investigation report by May 19.

The case was filed after at least 74 people, including 57 army officers in command of the paramilitary border force, were killed during the February 25-26 deadly mutiny by the border guards.

A total of 2,484 persons, including BDR jawans, have so far been arrested in the cases of mutiny, murder and other felonies. Of the suspects, CID interrogated 2,267 on remand and 539 accused gave confessional statements to magistrates.

Of civilians, former BNP lawmaker Nasiruddin Ahmed Pintu and Awami League leader Torab Ali were arrested in connection with the mutiny and mayhem, which sent out a wave of troubles to other BDR garrisons across the country—making it the biggest incident of the sort after the 1857 historic Sepoy Mutiny against the colonial British regime.
