Fire burns shop at Eastern Plaza

Dhaka: A shop at the Eastern Plaza shopping-maul in city’s Hatirpul area was burnt in a Wednesday morning fire, before the market opened for the day.

The fire incident took place at shop no. 15/10, level-2, of Eastern Plaza around 7:00 am, official sources said.

“On information, three units of fire service rushed in and brought the flames under control within one hour,” said one source.

The firefighters said the fire might have originated from electric short circuit.

The loss has been initially estimated at Tk 40 lakh, said the shop owner, Dipak Barua

The firefighters, however, claimed they saved valuable goods of the shop worth Tk 70 lakh.
