A Union Parishad (UP) member was hacked to death by some unidentified miscreants at Shibganj Upazila in Chapainawabganj on Thursday (April 13) afternoon.

The incident took place at Nabab mor area at around 1.30 pm.

The Deceased was identified as Alam Jhapra, 50, was son of Abul Jhapra, a resident of Sundarpur village of the upazila.

He was Ward-9 member of Nayalbhanga Union Parishad and president of the ward BNP.

According to locals, a group of 7-8 persons blocked Alam's way and started chopping him when he was returning home from the Union Parishad, leaving him critically injured.

Locals rescued him and took to Chapainawabganj 250-Bed District Hospital where the on-duty doctor declared him dead.

Shibganj Police Station officer-in-charge Sukamal Chandra Debnath confirmed the matter.

Legal steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
