Two people, including a woman, were killed and three others were injured after a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw collided head-on with a pickup van at Baniachang in Habiganj.

The accident took place on the Habiganj-Baniachang road in Shutki area of the upazila on Friday (April 14) afternoon.

The deceased were identified as Majnu Mia, 40, son of Raja Mia of Ajmiriganj upazila and Nurjahan Begum, 50, wife of Abdul Awal.

According to eyewitnesses, an autorickshaw was coming from Ajmiriganj upazila to the district town. The autorickshaw overturned and the passengers were injured when it collided head-on with a pickup van coming from the opposite direction at a bend in the river Shutki.

Baniachong Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Anjan Kumar Saha confirmed the matter.

He said the injured were taken to District Sadar Hospital, where the doctors on duty declared Majnu and Noorjahan dead. The rest of the injured are receiving treatment there.

Two vehicles involved in the accident have been seized by the police and legal action is being taken in this regard, he added.
