A massive fire broke out at New Super Market in the capital early Saturday (April 15).
After the fire started around 5:40am, 30 firefighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at 9:10am.
Brigadier General Md Main Uddin, director general of Department of Fire Service and Civil Defence, confirmed the matter while talking to the journalists at gate number 4 of the market.
Meanwhile, 20 persons, including nine firefighters, who have fallen sick in the fire incident at New Super Market in the capital.
The injured were taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for treatment, according to fire service sources.
The firefighters who fell sick due to huge black smoke while trying to douse the New Super Market fire - are - Russell, 22, Shanto, 20, Taufiq, 23, Rajan, 25, Milan, 26, Sajeev, 25, Ariful, 26, Kamruzzaman 25, Shariful, 24.
All of them are undergoing treatment at the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Bacchu Mia, in charge of the DMCH police camp, confirmed the matter.
Meanwhile, Fire Service and Civil Defence's director general Brig Gen Md Main Uddin said they managed to take the blaze under their control but it would take some more time to douse fully.
